If you are looking to have something mounted I strongly suggest looking elsewhere (see photos of duck and email exchange with ben) Pros: Convenient Location Cons: Poor Customer Service; Mount Quality below expectations ; Lengthy Turnaround; Pricey While Tri-State is pricey and turnaround is never what you were quoted, these can be rather trivial if you know what you will be rewarded with is authentic craftsmanship and a high quality mount. Unfortunately, the Wood Duck Ben Mounted for me fell well short of my expectations. The mold was showing in between the beak and feathers. The eyelids were off color and peeling off. The beak itself in no way matched that of my original bird and was painted a hot pink color. After politely expressing to him my concerns, his apathetic response was shocking. Such a poor experience on a relatively straight forward duck certainly should raise some red flags on someone looking to have a one of a kind big game trophy mounted.
Great service and a quality product. Ben made quick work of my 2 whitetail bucks and even did some special customization for me! Thank you Tri-State!
Due to a ridiculous comment below, I felt obligated to put in my two cents. I have had Tri-State do an Axis, Wood Duck, Euro Mount 8pt, and tan a hide. I usually drop off on Sundays and they have met me every time even though they were closed. Taxidermy work are long lead items. I wouldn't say he is fast or slow but Ben and Co are realistic on when to expect delivery and I found them to be professional when calling for an update. The Wood Duck he did was amazing. Beyond expectations for sure. He recommended how it should be done, opposite of my initial thoughts, and I was amazed. The Axis was still in velvet and they appear to have done a great job preserving it. The mount looks great. Euro Mount took a long time to get back but he has to do with their process and it turned out great. I have recommended these guys to other people and every time I am there they have taken the time to discuss my mount in detail and we usually cruise through the shop looking at all the cool stuff. This was my first and last time using Tri-State. I dropped off a Nilgai cow to be tanned in January 2020. After looking at the finished product in November 2020 it was evident that the quality was very poor. I paid almost $1,000 to have this hide tanned, which I thought was high to begin with. The hide had numerous holes in it that were not there when I dropped it off and it looked horrible around the edges. I spoke with the owner and expressed my concern and his response was to offer to fix the holes for an additional $500. I attempted to ask if he would do anything to help resolve the issue and he declined. After spending that much money this response is unacceptable.
Excellent work. I have had ducks, geese, turkey, deer and bobcats done by Ben and he crew at Tri State. Every animal I had came back beautiful. The attention to detail is stunning and is a true example of what other taxidermists should strive for. If you have a fine animal take it here and enjoy it forever. Gorgeous work.
I've gone to Tri-State for over 15 years. Ben is dedicated to his craft, fair, and a straight shooter. He has won countless awards going against the best in the industry. I highly recommend.
STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!!!. Took an Aoudad Sheep to get a shoulder mount, all was good until I picked up the mount. Notice @ the time I picked it up a chunk missing out of one of the ears. Got home & looked @ the pictures of the Sheep I harvested, the cape color was darker & ears has no chuncks missing. Called Ben & he asks me to send pictures, he goes on to apologized & blames the tanning shop for getting cape mixed up. Took sheep back. After me calling multiple times Ben tells me that he found my cape & will have sheep redone & ready in a couple of weeks. Months later & countless calls he tells me that it was ready. Went to pick up & was blown away by the crappy job that was done. Refuse to give refund & told me that the work done was up to his shop standard. Had sheep redone by another shop & finally got it hanging on my wall 15 months later.
