I visited The Insect Asylum for their paint and sip with Opal the possum and it was such a fun experience! It included the canvas and painting materials, and we got a little possum Q&A while Opal visited everyone at their tables. We had a chance to feed her some fruity snacks, although she was interested in the paint - but I choose to believe she’s just an artist at heart and couldn’t resist a chance to paint her own self portrait 🙂 I was so excited that I was able to have Opal sit on my shoulders for a bit, honestly it was the cutest cuddliest thing I never thought I’d have the chance to do but thoroughly enjoyed. There are plenty of photo ops and was super fun overall, including the gift shop with art from local vendors and variety of taxidermy insects and animals. Definitely worth checking out!
I went on Halloween. The experience was top tier and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I would consider it very compact, a small area but so much to see and admire. Beautiful art, taxidermy, and an amazing little gift shop area.
The Insect Asylum is a such a cute little place! Lots of amazing taxidermy pieces on display, live animal sanctuary, and they offer a variety of classes. I attended a butterfly pinning workshop and had so much fun and learned how to pin my own specimen! Highly recommend for any bug or nature lovers out there!
Went with my partner on 2/21. We had a really nice time. I use a rollator to get around so I was not able to get up the stairs to see the live animals. The staff were accommodating and brought out several animals for me to hold and learn about! I didn’t even have to ask they just did it. We were able to enjoy the museum throughly! It was pretty loud because there were kids there and it’s a small space but that comes with the territory of children in any space 😂 We are now planning our next visit for one of the classes they host here.
Such a wonderful little museum! They have a wonderful staff, and plenty of community events to participate in. I love that they have discount admission days as well as discount classes. I've been here a handful of times already & I have loved it every time.
I can't recommend this place enough. We had so much fun doing our insect pinning workshop, the instructor was the nicest person ever and we even got to meet the Opal up close. You can't decide where to look first, there's so many things to discover, loads of stuff you can even touch and experience. We will definitely be coming back the next time we're in Chicago.
You get what you pay for. Once I got over the premium pricing, I was completely drawn in by Miranda's hospitality and knowledge. This place is amazing. Jam packed full of cool stuff. If you are interested in insects and other cool animals and insects, you have to visit. Photos and videos to come.
